The Pea Shellers
The Pea Shellers (Laura, Kerrmela, Jenny, Nickey Sue and Starr) are five sisters who grew up singing together on the family farm near Four Oaks, North Carolina. Their mother taught them songs and four part harmony to help them concentrate on picking peaches and other produce instead of picking on each other. During their high school years, the girls operated their family's pea shelling business during the summer.
The sisters had never sung together in public until 2013, when they sang for praise and worship at Hickory Grove Advent Christian Church.
Lynn Stephenson, who was the Elder at Hickory Grove and a long-time customer of their pea shelling business remarked, "not bad for a bunch of Pea Shellers" and the rest is history.
The Pea Shellers’ concerts are a family affair with nieces and nephews joining in to sing praises and worship to God.
